Professional statement

Karen prides herself on working with adults... from those just entering adulthood, to those navigating later-in-life issues, and everything in between. She is passionate about working with relationship issues; identifying the struggle, strategies for change, and empowering ways to begin shifting a person's beliefs and behaviors so they start attracting what they really want. She specializes in honest communication, self-esteem, trust & intimacy issues, anger management, co-dependency, heartbreak & loss, defensiveness & vulnerability, and life transitions.

Karen uses a combination of approaches including cognitive behavioral, psycho dynamic, inner child, and humanistic modalities to help clients see how their pasts are impacting their difficulties today and ways they can reclaim power back over their lives.

Karen graduated with a Master's in Social Work from San Diego State University and also holds a Bachelor's of Science in Journalism from the University of Colorado at Boulder. In addition, she also worked for three years as a youth development volunteer in the Peace Corps on a small island nation in the South Pacific. Here, she developed myriad skills related to cultural competence and navigating the various hardships associated with transition, adjustment, and vulnerability, as inherent to living and adapting to life in a foreign land. Since that time, she has provided therapy support in-home, supporting children and families with reunification, and also provides mental health support to teens in schools. Her passion in private practice remains one which focuses on supporting adults in navigating interpersonal relating and the various challenges inherent to adulthood.

In addition to providing Telehealth services online, Karen is also seeing clients in person at her office in central San Diego (Mission Valley).

Message to clients

My belief is that unless we get to the heart of the matter of whatever is causing your grief, solutions will only go so far. My approach is holistic; helping you heal core insecurities that are causing you distress. By facilitating a process of becoming aware, I will help you relinquish unconscious beliefs that are holding you back and support you in identifying what you need to make change.

It would be an honor to guide you in becoming aware and to watch as you enjoy the fruits of empowered communication, relationships you find fulfilling, and a newly realized acceptance of 'self' as grounded in true personal integrity and genuine self-esteem.
