Professional statement

ACCEPTING NEW CLIENTS - Kari is a therapist in Winnetka, IL who works with ages 13 and up. She works with a wide range of issues including, but certainly not limited to her special passions – Queer (LGBTQIA+) community with particular emphasis on supporting transpersons, and trauma and PTSD – as well as anxiety, depression, families of severe mental illness, self-harm, aviation industry, bipolar disorder, grief and loss, coping skills, multicultural therapy, stress management, and life transitions. Kari is also poly and kink friendly.

She is fandom friendly whether it’s LARPing, furry, gaming, etc. If it’s an important part of your life she is here for it.

Kari is a “person-centered” therapist, meaning she believes clients have the capacity to find their full potential, and views it as her job to nurture that just as a coach nurtures an athlete. That being said, she approach to therapy is “one size does not fit all.” She will use the combination of tools and techniques that best fit the client and their individual challenges.

Kari earned her degree at The Chicago School of Professional Psychology with a concentration in Latino/a mental health. By no means an expert, Kari nonetheless aims to validate and support clients of all ethnicities, creeds, and religions. She is also a certified trauma professional and trained in the EMDR method of trauma processing.

Her office is a two-minute walk from the train station on the Union Pacific/North Line and is wheelchair accessible.

Message to clients

I firmly believe in individualized, customized, evidenced-based care for each and every client. Your experience is unique to you, and I need to respect that by tailoring my approach to fit you and your struggles, specifically. I want each client to be my equal partner in his, her, or their therapy. I tell my clients that while I may be in the passenger seat with the road map to make suggestions, ultimately they are the ones driving the car and they choose where we will go.

Clients tell me they appreciate my laid-back attitude. I try not to take myself too seriously, but I will always, always take you and your struggles seriously. Otherwise there is little point in the therapy.

You have a natural capacity to be a happy and fully actualized person. Just as all our talents need practice and guidance so does your mental wellbeing.
