Professional statement

Katy Alaniz (she/her) is a mental health therapist, licensed to provide counseling services to all of Texas. She earned her Bachelors degree in Psychology at Dallas Baptist University and then completed her Masters degree in Professional Counseling at Amberton University.

Katy has worked in the field of eating disorders since 2015, at both the residential and outpatient levels. She has obtained her certification in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and continues working toward CEDS certification. Katy has a passion for working with the polyam/kink community, eating disorders, and the LGBTQIA community. She currently sees clients all across Texas via telehealth.

Katy practices often from a feminist HAES approach, uses the enneagram often in sessions, and expertly integrates experiential techniques into her practice. Her favorite show is The Office, she’s a 4 on the enneagram, and fresh hydrangeas and good coffee will always put a smile on her face!

Message to clients

My main saying, which is plastered all over my website, is 'you deserve peace just as much as anyone else'. I remember what it felt like to have little to no peace/contentment, and it's miserable. When I was at my worst with my own mental health diagnoses, I would describe to others that I felt like a half-dead person, just kind of walking around in a perpetual state of being asleep. When I started getting better, it's like I woke up.

I named my practice 'The Wakeful State', because that's my hope for you: to be in a state of wakefulness, clarity, and a little closer to joy. If you're willing to talk and change, I believe I can help get you to your own wakeful state.
