Professional statement

Kelsey Bates is a licensed professional counselor specialized in working within the women's health niche. Kelsey founded Mental Health Counseling for Women's Health, PLLC with the goal of meeting women where they are, supporting them in the midst of pain and providing tools for them to stop just surviving and start thriving. Kelsey's clients have women's health issues such as endometriosis, adenomyosis, chronic pain, chronic illness, infertility, autoimmune issues, miscarriage and hysterectomy as well as anxiety, depression, grief and loss.

Kelsey utilizes a client centered approach, rooted in psychodynamic processing, cognitive behavioral techniques and mindfulness tools. She is also trained in Cognitive Processing Therapy, a highly effective cognitive behavioral approach to treating trauma and PTSD.

Kelsey earned her Master's degree from The George Washington University in Washington, D.C. She went on to complete her residency for licensure in New York City, working in both non-profit and private practice settings. Kelsey received training from the Ellis Institute in Manhattan in Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy and is recognized as a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor, National Certified Counselor and member of the American Counseling Association.

Kelsey is licensed to work with individuals in New York, Virginia, Washington D.C., and Maryland utilizing telehealth.

Message to clients

You are striving to do it all-juggle work, relationships, family responsibilities, friendships while navigating women's health issues. Perfectionism makes you feel like you are failing when in reality you are doing the best you can. It's hard to believe things could get better and anxious thoughts about the future fill your mind. You worry about falling behind others' timelines because plans have been derailed. You feel isolated and lonely at times.

Anxiety, depression and grief can all be a part of navigating a challenging health diagnosis or chronic pain. You may be struggling with what your identity as a woman looks like now, feeling a lack of control or anger that your body let you down. This is impacting your most important relationships and you're just feeling stuck.

My priority in our work together is to get you to a place where you feel "unstuck". I want you to leave each session feeling heard, supported and with more tools in your toolbox. Let's work together to get you to a place where you are thriving, not simply surviving.
