Kira works with clients age 18 and older, including couples and incorporates a combination of Feminist, Narrative, and Relational Therapies. She prioritizes forming strong connections with her clients so while in session they can be their authentic selves.

She received her MSW and MEd in Human Sexuality from Widener University and her BA from Brown University.

Message to clients

I'm excited to both work with people who have very specific sexuality related goals that they would like support around, and to do general mental health counseling with people who do not want to educate their therapist about a specific part of their sexual and/or gender identity. I work to create a space where people can show up as their full and complicated selves and trust that they will be genuinely cared about. I have specific training around gender diversity including trans and non-binary identities.

As a relational therapist it is central to my work that I develop authentic and healing therapeutic relationships with my clients where they know they are unconditionally cared about, and where they can do challenging and vulnerable relational work in a boundaried and structured environment.

Our therapy program is based in a sex positive philosophy that frames a wide diversity of identities, desires, and sexual behaviors as healthy and normal. We center social justice, personal autonomy, and consent as our guiding values. If this sounds like support that meets your unique self and needs - I'm excited to work with you.

Specialties

Gender affirmation - Reflecting the inherent worth and value of the wide diversity of ways that people experience their internally felt sense of gender

Sexual functioning - Supporting individuals and relationships in navigating varying levels of physical ability that can impact sexual functioning; this may include impacts of disability, chronic illness, or mental health as well as the normal variation that occurs in bodily function as people age and bodies change

Sexual pleasure - Connecting people to medically accurate information and the latest sexual enhancement devices to support them in safely accessing the full range of sexual experiences and stimulation that they desire

Sexual communication - Supporting people in building the confidence, language, and skills to effectively communicate their desires, boundaries and experiences about sexual interactions; this includes both building an understanding of self and the ability to communicate it effectively to partners

Sex positivity - Working to reframe sexuality as a part of authentic self within a cultural context that frames sex as an inherently dangerous and external force; while not all sexual experiences are positive, sex positivity honors sexuality as a powerful and important part of self that has the potential to be healing and positive when consensually expressed in alignment with strongly held values and beliefs

Couples counseling - Improving communication and problem solving skills with couples from all gender and sexual identities

Out of control sexual behavior - Managing sexual urges, thoughts, and behaviors that feel out of control and cause significant distress

LGBTQ and gender identity issues - Includes coming out, relating to others, identifying and communicating needs, relationships, and family issues

Transgender topics - Provides therapeutic support before, during, and after transition

Trauma - Including dealing with past sexual assault, childhood trauma, environmental trauma (e.g. witnessing/experiencing violence), PTSD (post traumatic stress disorder)

ADD/ADHD - Managing ADHD and its effects on decision making, studies, relationships, and work; helping with organizational challenges

Anxiety - Coping with excessive worry, nervousness, or stress; intense discomfort in social settings (social anxiety); sudden and intense feelings of panic (panic disorder)

Depression - Providing support and promoting healing of hopelessness, low motivation and energy, sadness, irritability, sleep disturbance, and loss of interest and pleasure in life
