Professional statement

Masha Sorkin is a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker and an AASECT Certified Sex Therapist with expertise in Couples Counseling and Adult Individual Counseling. Masha works with couples surrounding relationship, premarital and marital issues. Masha takes a structured and solution focused approach to help couples get back on track and work towards their goals. Masha also works with young professionals on areas surrounding adjustment, anxiety, stress and navigating next steps. Masha recognizes that her clients have busy lives, and holds early morning, late evening, and Sunday office hours to make therapy accessible for students and working professionals.

Masha’s practice is focused on working with clients ranging from college students, young adults in their 20s and 30s, and adults through age 65 as they navigate the complicated world of “adulting.” Masha offers an eclectic set of approaches tailored to the needs of her clients including but not limited to; solution focused therapy for couples, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for individuals and adults to process situations and make measurable goals to work on building skills and improving behaviors, Gottman Method for Couples and Relationship Counseling, Exposure Therapy for clients dealing with anxiety/symptoms of OCD, EMDR therapy for clients who have dealt with trauma and Sex Therapy approaches.

Masha values the contribution that clients make to therapy, and readily adapts her style and the structure of the session to meet individual needs. She frequently provides homework in order for clients to independently assess what skills work best for their lives and get the most out of therapy sessions, and works to support individuals outside of scheduled sessions via Zoom, email, phone, and text.

Message to clients

I feel that finding the right therapist is so important to the quality of treatment and achieving success for set goals. I believe that it is hard to take the first step to come to therapy and it is therefore even more important to find someone you can connect to and feel comfortable with. My mission for all of my clients is to partner with them to achieve their goals and to empower them to obtain and maintain the skills in their own lives so that they eventually come to therapy to check in rather than to confront a crisis.
