Professional statement

Meg Robinson is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with expertise in young adults and families of aging adults. She received her MSW in Clinical Social Work from Boston University, and completed graduate studies in French Literature at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. Meg has worked as a Staff Counselor at Johnson & Wales University and is currently runs a private practice in Providence.

Meg's expertise in the emerging adult population stems from her previous career as an educator. With an in-depth understanding of the college experience, Meg seeks to assist and support undergraduate and graduate students as they navigate the process of self-discovery and understanding in the context of higher education. More generally, Meg works with adults facing life transitions and the accompanied anxieties and emotional consequences thereof such as divorce, career change, menopause and aging.

Meg understands clients in the context of their environment and works collaboratively with people to better understand and accept themselves while exploring barriers to greater life satisfaction. She utilizes values clarification in concert with goal identification, skill-building and mindfulness techniques that are common to behavioral approaches to psychotherapy, particularly Acceptance Commitment Therapy.

Meg currently works from her office on the east side of Providence She is available for Telehealth and in-person depending on client availability and preferences.

Message to clients

Reaching out for help can be intimidating. Finding a good fit in a therapist is key to forming a trusting and safe relationship first and foremost. Once this is established it's about finding the right approaches that are effective for each individual.

I work with clients to identify areas of challenge and strength in order to foster greater self-awareness, understanding and acceptance. I rely on a variety of mindfulness and behavioral techniques to address habitual patterns of thinking and behaving that cause many people to feel trapped in negative self-perceptions and/or challenging relationships with others.

In my experience, through this kind of therapeutic alliance – a combination of relationship and skill-building – people can and do overcome emotional challenges and accomplish greater self-understanding, acceptance and life satisfaction.

"I have known Meg since she began her clinical training as an intern in college mental health. She is a consummate professional and authentic human being. As a former Professor, Meg changed careers in order to reach young adults in a deeper and more meaningful way. This unique and broad skill set really enhances her capacity to truly understand the college student experience. She embodies that wonderful combination of intelligence and skill while also remaining REAL. I would recommend her without hesitation."
