Dr. Michael O'Heron is a licensed psychologist in Washington, DC who specializes in working with clients dealing with depression, anxiety, self-esteem, relationship issues, identity issues, and general life transitions. Clients who seek therapy with Dr. O'Heron often do so when, despite feeling accomplished in their careers and/or academic pursuits, continue to feel a lack of meaning or purpose in life or who feel an overall sense of isolation and disconnection from themselves and others. Dr. O'Heron integrates various modalities and theories of psychotherapy into his practice, including psychodynamic, cognitive-behavioral, and emotion-focused approaches, but primarily conceptualizes his work through a psychodynamic/relational lens. Dr. O'Heron works to help clients understand how early life experiences impact their thoughts and feelings regarding self and others in the present. Through this process, Dr. O'Heron works to help clients disembed issues from their past in order to help them feel unstuck.
Dr. O'Heron views the therapeutic relationship as a crucial part of successful therapy and works to facilitate a strong working alliance with his clients. Dr. O'heron works to facilitate an affirming and non-judgmental environment with his clients. Dr. O'Heron emphasizes providing culturally sensitive care in addition to LGBTQIA affirmative therapies.
In his free time, Dr. O'Heron loves to practice tai chi and other Chinese martial arts. He is an avid music lover and enjoys watching European soccer, especially when his favorite club, Tottenham Hotspur, is playing.
