Rebecca Showalter is a licensed psychologist in Denver and provides psychotherapy and assessment for adults, adolescents, and children. She is passionate about the capacity for change and healing possible for people. She believes in the unique role that therapy has in this process. After all, you cannot see what you cannot see; and it is the therapist’s job to help you see.
Dr. Showalter uses a number of psychotherapy models for adults and teens including Psychodynamic, Internal Family Systems (IFS) and other interpersonal approaches. She believes that the heart of treatment involves helping the client gain insight into her own functioning (motivations, defenses, patterns). As the client sees and understands herself better, she becomes the master of her future with greater choice of who and how she wants to be in the world.
With children, Dr. Showalter uses Child Centered Play Therapy (CCPT), an evidence-based approach that provides change from the very heart of the problem. CCPT is designed to treat the whole child, starting with the most salient challenges. Dr. Showalter heavily encourages parents to be involved in the child’s treatment to safeguard lasting change.
Dr. Showalter practices a blended method of testing and therapy called Therapeutic Assessment. This is a short-term intervention that focuses on immediate and profound self-understanding and change. In addition, Dr. Showalter provides traditional psychological assessments for those seeking diagnostic clarity (Depression, Anxiety, Intelligence, Bipolar, ADHD, Autism, etc.) or simply looking to understand themselves better through a one-and-done comprehensive evaluation.
Dr. Showalter has worked with clients for 12 years. She received her doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the Institute for the Psychological Sciences in Virginia. Her office is in Littleton, Colorado near Sante Fe and Bowles Ave. She is also available via remote sessions for those in Colorado and in participating Psypact states.
