Professional statement

Serina Pino is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapy and a Licensed Clinical Alcohol and Drug Counselor. Serina helps clients better understand the role addiction plays in their life and find compassion around such a difficult situation. She also works with individuals who would like to enhance their relationships with others as well as the relationship they have with themselves by building healthy habits, improving communication, managing stress, and working through depression as well as anxiety.

Serina’s approach to therapy stems from a systems perspective, which means that she looks at each individual as part of a person’s environment and that all components of a person’s life must work together in order to heal.

She provides psychoeducation to individuals, couples and families on substance abuse, anger, relationship skills, conflict management as well how to set boundaries, and effective communication skills.

Message to clients

Since the start of my career, my clients have primarily been men trying to support their recovery through psychotherapy. In the process of finding their footing in sobriety, alcohol was always a symptom of another larger problem.

They’ve talked about the guilt/shame, feelings of inadequacy, perfectionism, fear, anger, depression, and their ability to provide financially for their families/wives but not being able to be connected to them emotionally. There were also struggles of adjusting to holiday’s, work functions, BBQs, football sunday’s, and any other activities surrounding drinking. In the process, I have worked with their families and significant others to help everyone be on the same page. Finding a new normal can be overwhelming. Change can feel uncomfortable.

Has “white knuckling” it ever really worked for you? It was always told to us that being strong is pushing down our feelings because showing emotion can be a sign of weakness, when in reality the most courageous thing we can do for ourself is to ask for help.

Take the leap, use strength and ask for help.
