Professional statement

Women (including trans and nonbinary individuals) face unique challenges across the lifespan, particularly during times of transition. Overwhelming emotions, irritability, anxiety, or low mood are all signs that a change is needed, quite possibly in the form of a skilled, compassionate therapist to help you navigate these experiences. The perinatal (pregnancy and postpartum) period can be a particularly difficult time, and symptoms may manifest in unexpected ways, such as feeling so overwhelmed or anxious you cannot enjoy your life or be fully present. Even for those without a history of significant mental health issues, pregnancy and postpartum can bring up past trauma, intrusive or scary thoughts, feeling depressed or anxious, or just not feeling like yourself. Dr. Erisman is an expert in perinatal mental health and the specific challenges that arise during this time, both for the client and their support system.

With over 10 years of clinical experience in women's mental health, Dr. Erisman is committed to helping women navigate difficult experiences with evidence-based strategies. She has a specialty in both perinatal mental health (pregnancy and postpartum) and dialectical behavior therapy. Dr. Erisman loves working with young adults, especially the Brown University community. Dr. Erisman is currently serving as faculty in the Warren Alpert Brown Medical School, and is dedicated to teaching, training, supervision, and consultation in addition to individual and group psychotherapy.

Message to clients

Although we are often taught otherwise, reaching out for help is an act of strength and courage. If you are willing to do the work of therapy - which, in the beginning, is just about showing up - you WILL get better.

My style is direct, warm, thoughtful, and engaging. My clients have characterized my work as "stealth therapy" - meaning, we use evidence based approaches to obtain your desired results, but with humor and compassion so you feel held and supported as you engage in the hard work of therapy.

Feel free to book a free 15-minute consultation to discuss in more detail, ask questions, and see if we are a good therapy match. Feeling connected to and (relatively) comfortable with your therapist is a crucial part of having therapy "work."

You have already taken the first step in seeking out therapy options - great job! Keep going - you deserve to feel better.
