Professional statement

Shaffrayne Solomon (Shay) is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in the states of California and Nevada. Shay is the Therapist at Illuminative Self-Care Therapy (ISCT), which is a virtual therapy practice seeing clients solely in the states of California and Nevada via telehealth. Sessions at ISCT are strictly virtual and clients are able to receive therapy in the comfort of their home or the safe space of their choosing. ISCT currently conducts individual therapy in addition to relationship and family therapy, and holds group sessions as the need arises. Shay has a Master of Arts degree in Clinical Psychology and has been doing this practice for 10+ years. She has been fortunate to experience all walks of life and brings those experiences along with her personality to session. Shay's approach and goal at ISCT is grounded in supporting clients to increase their awareness around the way you operate within yourself, with others, and in the world. She utilizes various theories to support this, such as Cognitive behavioral therapy, which is based in the idea that our thoughts, feelings, and actions are all related; Solution-focused therapy, which highlights people’s strengths and identifies skills and tools that one can use to address challenges they face; along with some mindfulness practices to assist with staying present, to again, support with increasing that overall awareness. ISCT emphasizes the importance of self-care and also gives consideration to one's basic needs and ways this plays into a person’s functioning.

Message to clients

Change is hard in any capacity. But as long as you have the willingness for that change in your life, the possibilities are endless. I (Shay from Illuminative Self-Care Therapy) would like to support you in that journey of change in efforts to meet your therapeutic goals. If you are currently dealing with anxiety, experiencing impacts of a traumatic event, seeking to work through some issues with a partner, or would simply like a space to process life events, I hope to help. By creating a safe, judgement free space, I aim to assist you in increasing your overall awareness of self and how to relate to others, while giving consideration to your self-care needs in the process. One cannot gain awareness without the ability to self-reflect and therapy is a great place to do that. To support this, I approach interactions with kindness and aspire to create a strong therapeutic alliance with those that I work with. I believe that each person is the expert of their own lives and I make an effort to give attention to the many aspects that make a person who they are. I understand that we are all doing the best that we can and that sometimes we have it in us to be our best selves and sometimes we just don't. My end goal is to support you in wherever you're at and be someone that can walk with you and be consistent in some of those difficult times of life.
