Professional statement

Sheridan Henderson is a Licensed Marriage Family Therapist whose private practice is based in Beverly Hills, California. She offers both video and in-person sessions. Her clients range from ages 12 to 86. She sees individual clients and couples from diverse cultural backgrounds and sexual orientations, addressing issues around LGBTQIA2S+, arts-related careers, feminism, and generally navigating life with its concomitant anxieties, depression, trauma, and other challenges.

Sheridan is trained in a broad range of therapeutic modalities, including psychodynamic, Jungian, psychoanalytic, relational gestalt, existential, feminist, and somatic orientations. Sheri works with clients to address issues in the here-and-now that might be impacting their life satisfaction and joy.

This is Sheridan’s third career. Her undergraduate work included dual majors in modern dance and comparative literature. She enjoyed dancing professionally while she was young enough to do it and then equally enjoyed her 39 years in K-12 public education as teacher, coach, consultant, author (Holt, Rinehart, Winston), and administrator. Over time, she felt there were better ways to address the human issues that her students and their families were experiencing. This led her to return to school for a second Master’s degree:  Master of Arts in Counseling with an emphasis in Depth Psychology. She is currently studying psychoanalytic theory and is planning to pursue analytic training.

Message to clients

"What is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?" Mary Oliver's compelling question suggests that perhaps now is the time to give yourself the gift of being you--authentically and with joy. Perhaps you struggle with your relationships, your sense of purpose, your emotions, your family, your sexuality. Together we can explore your thoughts and feelings, the history that produced them, and the changes you can make to feel more fully alive--to feel seen, to feel understood, to know that you are worthy of love and able to make deep connections with others.

I believe in your ability to grow, heal, change. I ask you to be real, and I am real in return. I talk truth. I listen. I cuss sometimes. I crack jokes. I have your back, even when I might need to say what you don't want to hear. I expect myself to show up, every time. When you show up too, we can link arms and go forward together into the adventure that is your life. It isn't easy work, but it is powerful and liberating. I love what I do, and I can't wait to meet you.
