Professional statement

Susan Ericson is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Shelton, CT who specializes in working with adults and couples. Susan’s style is collaborative and non-judgemental, as she supports clients struggling with depression, anxiety, and stress related to school, work or relationships.

Susan’s approach stems from her background in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), both of which look at the connection between our thoughts, feelings, and actions. Susan emphasizes the importance of self-awareness and mindfulness as her clients learn how to change self-defeating thoughts and behaviors and "get out of their own way". At the very core of Susan’s practice is positive self-esteem, self-healing and empowerment, which allows her clients to cultivate their own resilience.

Susan received her Masters in Social Work from Columbia University School of Social Work, and subsequently received a certification in DBT. Susan has been in social work for over 15 years and continues to support her clients’ personal growth through her private practice.

Message to clients

Making the decision to start therapy can be a difficult one and you may have been considering and contemplating this decision for a while. So - first of all - congratulations for deciding to make your mental health a priority!

My therapeutic approach is down-to-earth and straighforward, yet caring and encouraging. I try to create an environment where my clients can feel comfortable, listened to and not judged.

I believe therapy can be whatever you as the client want it to be. You set the goals - whether it be to learn tools and techniques to improve your mood, to have support with decision making and problem solving or to be able to express your thoughts and feelings in a safe environment. Many times a little support, feedback and validation is all we need to initiate a desired change in our lives.
