Professional statement

Point Allerton Therapy is a private practice LLC in Massachusetts. T.Lee Shostack is an LICSW providing teletherapy to anyone who lives in the state. The practice has current openings for the clinical supervision group, relationship therapy and individual therapy. Our two client groups, Chronic Health Issues and Fat Liberation, are currently full, and will be accepting new clients in January 2023.

T.Lee uses she, they, and zee pronouns.

The practice specializes in working with people dealing with many of the manifestations of anxiety. We focus our clinical work on people in larger bodies through a fat liberation and HAES (Health At Every Size) lens; people who are LGBTQIA (and I provide GAS letters as a stand alone service as requested); creatives; college students and those in higher education or academia; creatives; people who are dealing with chronic health issues; I strive to be an anti racist provider and I work hard to be transparent, learning from those who are not my clients, and highly accountable.

Training and methodologies:

T.Lee uses a variety of methodologies and techniques based on what the challenges are and what the client needs, including narrative, motivational interviewing, liberation health, social therapy, relational work, harm reduction, medical social work, positive, postmodern, and strengths based models, including post graduate trainings.

Are we a good fit:

I always provide free consultations to potential clients as my experience is that is the best way to determine this for both you and myself.

Message to clients

My work is client centered, meaning it is led by you and what you want to work on, and I will ask you regularly what you want to focus our attention on together. If you do not know, that is something we can discover together. If you are impatient for growth, development, transformation, the more you act on the things we discuss, the more we will see the new you emerging!

Whether you need support in your relationship; want to develop self esteem and self confidence; are struggling with the impact anxiety is having on you; want to be doing something different with your life; are struggling at at work or in school settings - whatever you bring to therapy can be transformed by your participation. Fundamentally, the more you want it, the more likely it is that our work together will produce the results you are seeking.

My style is conversational and empathetic. Please also look at the website for my practice, Point Allerton Therapy, for more information.

Specialties

Anxiety - Worry; constant thoughts that may be powerful and tell you that you are not enough or that what you do is not enough; fears, concerns, making things seem or feel bigger or catastrophic; the mind will not stop and allow relaxation; may show up in your body in different ways especially including the gut

Body image - How do we feel about our physical selves; how do other people see and judge our bodies; how are we treated and related to due to our size; what do we want our bodies to be or do - and what we can do about all these things.

Relationship issues - Many people have challenges in relationships! Do you need additional help with work, personal, family, school relationships? Do you know what the challenges are or do you need assistance in identifying what is not working? Are you having a hard time naming what you want or need? In many instances communication is one of the arenas that needs attention. Possibly there are power dynamics at play. Maybe you are in a rut or stuck. Lets work on it together!

Clinical supervision - Offering professional supervision services for clinicians. I run a supervision group with two other seasoned clinicians.

Nonmonogamy, polyamory, and kink - Are you exploring something new for the first time or in a polycule with multiple primaries? Are you able to say no? Are you willing, able, and do you have the time to invest in non monogamous relationships? Do you have the communication skills needed? Are you being pressured to do something you are conflicted about? Have you always thought that one partner for life was the most ridiculous idea that humanity ever came up with? What do you want to work on?

Body Liberation / Health at Every Size - This work includes dealing with weight stigma, anti fat bias, diet culture, self worth, relationship with food, body image, disordered eating (but not active eating disorders), sexuality related to size, discrimination, medical providers and health inequities, accommodations, and others.
