Professional statement

Tasha Tyrell-Williams is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker located in New York City. Tasha works with adults; specializes in work with couples, but also works with individuals and families. The individuals she works with experience challenges with anxiety, depression, and have trauma histories. Her work with couples examines the conflictual patterns couples get locked into, the genesis of eroded trust, sexual and intimacy issues, and communication challenges.

Tasha supports her clients through trauma-informed, evidence-based therapy modalities including cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), narrative therapy, and mindfulness practices. Tasha will help unearth harmful internalized beliefs about self and explore how unresolved and unprocessed trauma influences behavior. Tasha will help her clients understand connections between their thoughts, emotions, and behavior.

Tasha earned a Master’s degree in Social Work from New York University and has a certification in Trauma Studies. She is currently working to complete a certification in couples therapy and to become a certified sex therapist. Tasha believes early messages about sex influence how we experience sexual pleasure and can also create distress and dysfunction in our sexuality. She believes sex therapy is for the individual who wants to begin to explore their sexuality or explore it more fully and for the couple who wants to develop or redefine their sexual style.

She has over 20 years of extensive experience working with diverse populations; both in healthcare and mental health. Tasha is known for creating a therapeutic space that supports the healing of “old wounds”, authenticity, transparency, and fortifies the transformative process of self-discovery. By encouraging clients to consider their readiness for change, she helps clients transition past their individual or relationship trauma into a safe, secure way of living.

Message to clients

I recognize by choosing to see me you are inviting me into intimate parts of your life, and my goal is to collaboratively explore all dimensions of you. As a clinician I believe we all have "untold stories". My belief is these stories can be the cornerstone of unhealthy thinking patterns and birthplace of anxiety and/or depression. I want to support you through the emotional discomforts and challenge maladaptive thinking patterns.

It's important that you know therapy is a non-linear process and will/can evoke a range of emotions; joy, sorrow, gratitude, shame, and fear to name a few. However, I will be present with you and be your guide on this journey together. I will provide a space for you to feel supported, seen, and heard. In return I welcome your curiosity, vulnerability, and hopes.

Thanks for viewing my profile and taking time to learn more about how I can help you navigate what will be a transformative process. I am available for a consultation and look forward to speaking with you.
