She/Her/Hers
Licensed Clinical Social Worker, LCSW Master of Social Work, MSWShe/Her/Hers
Licensed Clinical Social Worker, LCSW Master of Social Work, MSWWhitney Shevlin is an LCSW with 18+ years of experience providing individual and group therapy primarily to women and girls. Whitney's counseling practice is located in Arizona where she provides telehealth to clients across the state, in-person therapy from her quaint office outside of Phoenix, and Walk Talk Therapy along scenic nature trails outside her office. Whitney is passionate about working with women that want to break free from patterns of co-dependency, enmeshment, people-pleasing, and perfectionism that have left them feeling anxious, depressed, and depleted. A recovering "people-pleaser" herself, Whitney has learned and now loves to teach other women the life-changing magic of healthy boundaries and limit setting, as well as dispelling the myth that self-care and self-compassion are selfish! She believes that only after we can fill up our own cups to overflowing, do we have the right mindset and energy to give generously to others and attract healthy relationships.
Whitney is trained in many different therapeutic modalities, but her favorites, and the ones that seem to produce the best and most rapid results in her practice are Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), EMDR (Eye movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), and DBT (Dialectical Behavioral Training). In a nutshell, ACT uses mindfulness and acceptance strategies to help clients unhook from and distance themselves from unhelpful thought patterns, so that they can go about living a meaningful and enriching life. EMDR is one of the most extensively researched and empirically supported modalities for healing trauma. Through desensitizing and reprocessing painful experiences and memories from the past, EMDR creates the conditions for the brain to heal itself without having to relive what happened. DBT teaches mindfulness, distress tolerance skills and emotional regulation to improve overall mental health and coping.
