Professional statement

Brian Tesar is a psychiatrist on the east side of Providence. Dr. Tesar can answer questions about medications for mental health, such as if medications could be helpful for you or whether or not to change or get off medications that you are already taking. Dr. Tesar has a relaxed style. He will engage you in a conversation about your history and your lifestyle to better understand how symptoms affect you. Dr. Tesar's emphasis is on well-defined and measured goals of treatment, providing practical and unbiased information, considering the context in which people use medications and the impact that may have on their functioning and outlook.

Dr. Tesar completed a psychiatric resdiency at Barnes Hospital/Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri in 1996. He has been on staff at the Cape Cod and Islands Community Mental Health Center, Gosnold Cape Cod, and Butler Hosptial (since 2009). Dr. Tesar has been in private practice in Providence since 2018. Previously, Dr. Tesar had practices in New York City and Cape Cod. Dr. Tesar has strong interests in the use of evolutionary therory and information technology in psychiatry. Dr. Tesar does not participate in pharmaceutical industry sponsored educational events and Dr. Tesar does not meet with pharmaceutical representatives in his office.

Dr. Tesar is located at 480 Hope Street in Providence. He requires inital visits to be in-person and thereafter telehealth visits are an option. The intial visit is usually 75 minutes. Follow-up visits for medication management are usually 20-25 minutes. Dr. Tesar only sees patients for therapy when it seems a natural progression from medication therapy. That is, through the process of medication management, a rapport that is conducive to therapy develops.

Message to clients

As of April 4, 2024, my earliest opening for a new patient is on May 6. I do not have any openings for therapy at this time.

I require the first meeting to be in person. Thereafter, l can meet remotely using doxy.me, a medical website.

I check my messages most days, and I usually respond within one week. I will respond with an email to which you can send information needed to schedule an appointment. If you would like to speak before scheduling an appointment, let me know in your message, and I will find a time to talk. If you leave your phone number, let me know if it is okay to text you.

Please do not send a message if you do not have one of the insurance plans in my profile unless you intend to pay out of pocket.

Many of the insurances listed have multiple plans, a few of which may not cover to see me. You may want to check with your insurance, in which case they may ask for my NPI, which is 1255390290.

There is parking onsite and nearby for free.

I'm sorry but my office is not currently handicap accessible. It has six steps with a railing.

I am a solo practitioner and I do not have office staff. There are two other offices in my suite that are not used by medical practitioners.
