Professional statement

Alexandra Steen is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor located in Seattle, WA. Alexandra works with young adults and adults who struggle with intense feelings of shame. Her clients often experience low self-esteem, trust issues, and codependency in relationships, which may be the result of past trauma. Alexandra enjoys working with women and parents as they work through emotions like anxiety, sadness, and reaction to change.

In sessions, Alexandra employs a wide range of therapy approaches to help clients, including a focus on holistic health psychology that brings together the mind, body, and spirit. With a client-centered framework, she encourages clients to be the expert in their own lives. Clients benefit from Alexandra’s unconditional support as they talk through their challenges, with Alexandra providing perspective or reflection questions to consider. She takes a psychoanalytic and attachment-based approach so clients can learn more about their inner worlds, including how their ideas about relationships came to be.

Alexandra earned a Master’s degree from Bastyr University. She has over 10 years of experience as a counselor and enjoys working closely with clients as they engage in self-exploration and find a deeper sense of meaning in their lives.

Message to clients

Taking those first steps toward starting the therapy process can be daunting. It can be difficult to know how to choose the right therapist, or even where to start your search. I want clients to feel comfortable in the knowledge that I am someone who will see them in a deeper way that maybe no one else ever has before. I understand what it takes to build a therapeutic relationship where you can feel comfortable opening up and being your true self, maybe for the first time in your life. These things don't happen overnight, they take time and a real commitment to one another. I don't take my responsibilities to my clients lightly, and I feel deeply honored every time a client trusts me to care for them in this way. I became a therapist because I wanted to make a meaningful difference in people's lives, and it is my belief that everyone has within them an innate capacity to heal from the pain and trauma that so many of us experience as human beings. I want potential clients to know that they don't have to be alone in whatever it is they are struggling with, that I am ready and willing to begin walking with them on their journey towards healing.
