Professional statement

Dr. Aliza Romirowsky is a licensed clinical psychologist, with over 10 years of training and experience in and around New York City. Dr. Romirowsky works with adults both younger and older in individual psychotherapy. Clients working with Dr. Romirowsky are often facing challenges coping with life transitions and major stressors, or struggling with depression, anxiety, overwhelm, relationship conflict, feelings of shame, confusion and difficulty finding personal meaning. Dr. Romirowsky regularly sees clients who are struggling with conflict in their families, at work or in their social circles, as well as those navigating grief/loss, perinatal and reproductive issues and adjustment to challenging life stages (e.g. early adulthood, retirement, parenthood).

As a well trained psychologist, Dr. Romirowsky will work to find the therapeutic style that meets your current needs and priorities. Dr. Romirowsky draws from a variety of techniques, including Psychodynamic, Cognitive-Behavioral, Interpersonal, Humanistic, and Family System approaches. Sometimes therapy will explore your past to gain greater understanding of ways that your history impacts your present functioning. Other times it will focus on immediate challenges. Sessions with Dr. Romirowsky will be interactive and collaborative and her highest priority is to create a therapeutic space that fosters trust and mutual respect.

Dr. Romirowsky began private practice after serving as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at Mount Sinai Hospital, where she was also the Coordinator of the Psychology Extern Training Program. She has training experience at Zucker Hillside and Kings County Hospitals, as well as a Community Clinic in the Bronx. Dr. Romirowsky received her bachelor’s degree from Barnard College and her Doctor of Psychology Degree from Yeshiva University.

Message to clients

It is a privilege for me to work with clients as they grow to trust our relationship and use the therapeutic process to pursue a life that is nourishing and more deeply satisfying. I want you to know no matter the struggle, the pain or challenge you are facing, you do not need to walk this path alone.

Together we will strive to cultivate compassion, and a recognition of our shared humanity. And I will make sure that we recognize your strengths and sources of resilience, both of which we will cultivate and to which we may add additional skills and resources. I affirm the diversity found in the human experience, and respect the ways we are all complexly positioned within overlapping politicized systems, that deeply affect our identities, perspectives and create inequities among us. Our work should be that of mitigating the impact of these damaging forces, challenging them, overcoming them and healing from their impact.

I am dedicated to my own learning and growth, and perhaps my best source of growth is working directly with my clients, as we grow together in the process of psychotherapy. I welcome feedback and honesty and will provide that to you in return. I encourage you to reach out to me so we can begin a process of growth and development towards your feeling freer to fulfill your needs, cultivate relationships that work for you, and pursue a life that is consistent with your values.
