Professional statement

Amanda Neas, LICSW is a clinical social worker and psychoanalytic psychotherapist with offices in both Concord and Boston, Massachusetts. She provides individual, couples, and group therapy. Amanda prefers to meet in-person as she feels therapy is most effective in the office but does offer a hybrid approach depending on preference.

Amanda enjoys working with teenagers, young adults, and adults who are hoping to gain a deeper understanding of themselves and what can sometimes get in the way of reaching their goals and getting what they want out of life. Amanda also enjoys working with couples who are interested in learning more about how their past experiences and relationships are impacting their current relationship and want to work collaboratively with their partner to make meaningful change. Amanda believes our early relationships and experiences often shape the way we feel about the world and those around us and it can be of great value to explore this further in therapy.

Amanda was originally trained as a social worker but has gone on to pursue advanced training in modern psychoanalysis. Amanda is currently pursuing a doctoral degree from the Boston Graduate School of Psychoanalysis. She has also been involved in couples therapy training and group therapy training programs.

Message to clients

I’m a talk-based therapist whose intention is to help you achieve the goals you set for yourself. I like to take the time to find out what each client is looking for from therapy and work to always keep this goal in mind as the work progresses. I practice with the philosophy of working to fully understand and appreciate each client I work with. My aim is to create a safe and comfortable space where people feel open to share all of their thoughts and feelings, even ones that can be more challenging to tolerate at times. From my training in modern psychoanalysis, I encourage people to look at repetitive patterns that can prevent forward movement and growth.

I recognize that finding the right therapist can be challenging and that the connection is of utmost importance in the therapeutic relationship. I generally treat the first few sessions as a consultation period where we can decide together whether or not to work together. I typically work with people who are more interested in long-term treatment and therefore want to ensure that my style of therapy matches what you're looking for.
