Professional statement

Amy Lazier is Registered Drama Therapist and mental health counselor. Amy graduated from Lesley University with her MA in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and a specialization in Drama Therapy. Amy received her LMHC in 2022 and has been practicing in Rhode Island as an outpatient therapist since the beginning of her career. Specializing in drama therapy, a common question arises, “Do I have to be an actor to seek treatment?” The answer is, “No!” Drama therapy provides a unique therapeutic lens to elicit change in clients. Drama therapy is appropriate for anyone seeking therapy, especially those wanting to engage in an arts-based, embodied approach.

Amy invites her clients to share their story, utilize metaphor, think about their roles in their lives, be an interactive part of the process, and be willing to find meaningful change. Drama therapy provides an outlet to work within your personal narrative, allowing you to take ownership over your story. Amy enjoys working with clients who want to give something new a try, change is not always comfortable, and engaging in a variety of therapeutic practices can help with the process.

Beginning therapy can be a scary choice, give yourself the opportunity to grow and take up space.

Message to clients

I think that therapy is such a unique place to exist. Being a therapist, going to therapists, really believing that therapy helps is an important thing to know about me before you begin here at Dramatic Healing. I know that life feels incredibly uncertain, I know that we all want to find ways to make changes that feel meaningful and important, but sometimes we just don't know where to start. The work that I do with clients can feel different and all too familiar. Some of our work may push you out of a comfort zone, even while comfortably situated in the office, but then allow you to take up more space in your own life when you leave.

I think that therapy is exactly what you make of it. There is not anything magic going on, except for two people who have decided to work through some hard stuff together. As we face the things in our life that cause us pain and stress, we allow ourselves to be filled up with the idea that change is possible. The more we face, the more change we see. I am happy to show up for you, situate myself in your story as a guide, or a partner along the path to change, hope, and healing.
