Professional statement

Andrew Belcher (he/him) is a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW) with over a decade of clinical experience working with school aged kids, parenting families, couples, and individuals to navigate the stress, anxiety, and depression related to big life moments (adolescence, parenting, work, etc.) He specializes in school issues, family planning, infertility, complex pregnancy for birthing and non-birthing parents, and supporting families with children with medical complexity.

His practice focuses on the curious exploration of the mind and body through talk and trance therapy, yoga, and meditation. Andrew believes that exploring the body through the breath calms the mind and creates a distance from which we can see more clearly. This clarity allows for a deeper understanding about how we are, how we want to be, and how we will get there.

Andrew is an E-RYT 500, and studied yoga and meditation with Kripalu, Yogaworks, and Shambhala Meditation Center. Andrew has worked in schools, hospitals, and mental health clinics in Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and New York including Women and Infants Hospital, Community Care Alliance, The Jewish Board, Maimonides Medical Center, Berkshire Theater Group, and ENACT. In addition to his private practice, he also provides group therapy and individual counseling through Thrive Behavioral Health. He graduated from Tulane University with a BA in English and Spanish and completed his clinical social work MSW at Hunter College. Se habla español.

Andrew is now offering in-person and HIPPA compliant Telehealth sessions, workshops, and consulting.

Message to clients

I believe that therapy is a laboratory of self-exploration. This exploration builds the tools and skills to successfully navigate the challenges and joys of life.

Therapy is not fixing a broken you, but rather learning to live fully in the you that is perfect just as you are, now. Therapy is not getting something you don’t have, but rather unearthing the healing, vital wisdom you all already possess. And therapy is not a diagnosis, but instead developing tools and skills to understand who you are and how you work.

The therapeutic relationship begins with building trust and rapport. As we get to know each other, we will collaboratively define the goals and plan of action for the work ahead. The plan includes frequency/duration of sessions, modalities to be used, and measurements for progress, etc. The plan will inevitably evolve, and we will check in with each other routinely on how we think it’s going. We will tend to our endings just as much as our beginnings, and have the courage to be honest and accountable.

My hope is that this journey will build self-awareness and yield increasing moments of ease, integration, and equilibrium. From this calm, anchored place you can manifest the joyful, vibrant, and meaningful life you desire and deserve.

There is so much loneliness in our difficulties, yet it doesn’t need to be like that. You are not alone. If you have any questions or are interested in working together please do be in touch.
