Professional statement

Dr. Arease Edison is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist located in CA. Dr. Edison helps clients move forward after traumatic experiences. Often, her clients seek therapy becaues they carry painful memories with them, which interefere with their daily lives. This can lead to anxiety, panic attacks, crying, distrust in others, or relationship conflicts. She also works with clients who find themselves stuck in their depression and have no idea how to make changes in their lives.

Dr. Edison uses the cognitive behavioral framework in her work with clients. She encourages clients to see their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors as interconnected. Clients learn how to change their thought patterns, especially those related to their traumas, to avoid emotional distress or discomfort. She also teaches clients how to understand what’s in their control and what’s outside of their control through Acceptance and Committment Therapy (ACT). Dr. Edison has over twenty years of experience working with clients as they build their coping strategies and learn how to handle difficult emotions, including through mindfulness practices. She provides a caring, compassionate space where there is no judgment.

Dr. Edison earned a Master’s degree in Counselng Psychology and a Doctorate of Education in Counseling Psychology from Argosy University. Dr. Edison is a strong believer in making mental health treatment accessible for all members of the community. Her practice is a Black owned organization that strives to provide culturally competent, compassionate support for clients of all ages, situations, and backgrounds.

Message to clients

I believe the most beautiful thing is our ability to be vulnerable... it's what makes us human. I have found that when you slow down and check in with yourself, you may come across the most amazing person...YOU! Many of us are disconnected from ourselves and it is evident across various life domains. Learning to identify and get your needs met is your responsibility. Exploring various parts of ourselves increases chances that we will have a more meaningful existence.

Much of the work I am blessed to do with clients, is providing them with a safe space to land mentally and emotionally. Understanding the complexities we face in black and brown communities makes this interpersonal work meaningful. Therapy is not taboo and asking for help does not equate to weakness, rather strength and courage. As we become healed, whole and well, we contribute positively to our family, friends and our community.

I find meaning in helping others identify their needs and use words not behaviors to get them met... we are deserving of this. I want each person I am called to work with to know they deserve to be authentically seen and validated and we don't need anything outside of ourselves to be whole. Once we are healed from past hurts, we can become whole (lacking nothing) and then practice wellness to stay grounded. Be well.

XoXo
