Professional statement

"You are not a mess. You are a deeply feeling person in a messy world." - Glennon Doyle

Carmen Pullella, LICSW is a telehealth therapist based in Boston, MA. She has been in the field of clinical social work for 7 years, with experience in community mental health, partial hospitalization level of care, as well as individual, couples, and interpersonal group therapy.

Many of her clients often feel stuck in life and limited in their confidence to feel better. Often this shows up as depression, anxiety, mood instability, unhelpful coping skills, self-doubt and general distress affecting many parts of life. Carmen has special interest and clinical knowledge in topics relating to relationships: boundaries, codependency, attachment, relational trauma, relationship anxiety/R-OCD and love addiction.

Carmen offers a warm, genuine, empowering approach, mirrored by her own honesty, presence, and insight. As a queer, neurodivergent and bi-cultural individual, Carmen understands the many layers that accompany these life experiences, and is passionate about offering those with shared identities a space to be seen, understood, and validated.

Therapy goals are addressed via a personalized approach, often including evidence-based modalities such as Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), or theoretical frameworks such as Internal Family Systems (IFS), Interpersonal Therapy (IPT), Mindfulness Practices, Narrative Therapy, Psychodynamic Therapy, Strength-Based Therapy, Relational Therapy, Client-Centered Therapy, and Attachment Based Therapy.

Message to clients

Hello, and welcome! Though we don't know each other yet, I am so glad you are here.

Therapy is one of the most loving practices we can gift ourselves. It is brave and powerful to look inwards, meet parts of ourselves we’ve tucked away, and share our inner world with someone. We all have parts of us that resist change, uncomfortable emotions, vulnerability, and owning our truths. And, we also have parts of us that are yearning to speak up, to be free from our past, and to feel confident in our ability to manage life’s many ebbs and flows. I join you in this process of growth and self-reflection with warmth, empowerment, and acceptance as we discover to the most authentic parts of you.

The therapeutic relationship is so unique, and so integral to the process of therapy. It often will reflect our other relationships outside of session, and is a safe place to explore that freely. It is a primary focus of mine to build our relationship with honesty, unconditional compassion, and mutual interest. I am not a blank slate. You can expect me to be human and real with you, as you are with me. I take your time, presence, and experiences seriously and will honor that each session.

I encourage you to reach out and see if we feel like a good fit. If so, I look forward to joining you in your healing journey!
