Chelsea Dodgen is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker seeing clients who are based in New York and California. Chelsea's focus is working with adults who have experienced trauma or loss. This includes victims of violence, those grieving significant losses, and people who've been diagnosed with frightening illnesses. She also specializes in clients who are traumatized in the course of their work, such as medical professionals, essential workers, and journalists. Many of Chelsea’s clients to therapy come to address the long term impacts of trauma and prolonged grief reactions. They often feel disconnected from their lives, from other people, and from who they used to be.
In working with her clients, Chelsea draws from treatments under the umbrella of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), including mindfulness, somatic awareness and trauma processing. She works collaboratively with clients to create goals for their work together so she and clients are clear about where they're headed. She teaches clients how to integrate their experiences into their current lives so they can feel a sense of control over their mood and can begin to reconnect with what is important to them. Clients learn how to bring this new self into their current lives, making it possible to have suffered and also to have a rich and fulfilling future.
Chelsea earned a Master’s degree in Social Work from the University of California, Berkeley. She has nearly 20 years experience working with trauma in private practice, non-profits, and hospitals. She has received specialized training from global leaders in prolonged grief and trauma treatments and trains therapists to conduct trauma work across cultures. She is certified in both Trauma-Focused CBT and Prolonged Grief Treatments (Level 2).
