Professional statement

Dakia Davis is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in private practice, which is located in Raleigh, NC. Dakia is passionate about providing culturally-competent care for clients who suffer from overwhelming emotions as a result of trauma, medical issues, violence, grief, and lack of acceptance from loved ones based on their identity. She helps clients navigate difficult life transitions by empowering them to prioritize themselves, listen to their feelings, and grow connections to themselves and others. Dakia is Queer-competent and an ally for those of all sexualities, genders, and races.

Dakia blends together multiple evidence-based therapy modalities to offer comprehensive services. She draws from Psychodynamic Therapy and Existential Therapy approaches to help clients in their healing journey. She also teaches clients how to find relaxation and introspection through mindfulness-based therapy practices. She has training in Somatic Experiencing and the Trauma Conscious Yoga Method.

Dakia earned her Master’s degree from Howard University. She collaborates with her clients to develop impactful therapy goals and clear next steps to reach those goals. She encourages clients to show up to therapy authentically as they begin their healing journey together. Dakia understands the importance of accepting each client fully and listening attentively to their thoughts and ideas. She creates an empowering, secure atmosphere for clients to learn more about themselves and their capabilities.

Message to clients

We all deserve to thrive and live in alignment with our values. However, with so many pressures to base our lives on what the world expects, it can be hard to feel confident about who we are or how we should cope. I have worked in medical and community settings for more than 10 years with clients during challenging and/or transitional times to identify their strengths, develop coping skills, and honor their true selves. I use a holistic psychotherapy approach, exploring the connections between mind, body, and spirit. I’m interested in learning not only what happened or “what’s wrong,” but what makes you well.

Starting therapy can be a daunting process. To make sure clients feel comfortable and safe, I check in with them frequently, especially during the first few sessions. I like collaborating with clients to develop care plans that meet their needs, and I welcome feedback to make sure they get the most out of our work together.

You can count on me for support if you aren't sure where to begin, have a journal filled with notes, or somewhere in-between! We start wherever you are. Together we'll build a therapeutic relationship that makes space for your authentic self. I look forward to journeying alongside you as you discover your path to well-being.
