Professional statement

Dr. Dwight Hughes is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor located in Irving, TX. Dr. Hughes works with adult couples who feel that they have grown apart from one another. Many of the couples that work with Dr. Hughes long for a deeper connection in their relationship, which can lead to feelings of insecurity, conflict, and misunderstanding. These couples, including those engaging in premarital counseling, seek strategies for ensuring strong, healthy relationships, especially when going through major life transitions. Dr. Hughes also works with individuals who feel burnt out in their professional and personal lives, as well as those who struggle with grief, anxiety, or depression.

Dr. Hughes helps all clients to take better care of their minds, bodies, and spirits. With couples, he provides gentle prompting for exploration of intimacy, expectations, and attachment styles. They benefit from Emotionally-Focused Couples Therapy, which offers them a greater understanding of each other’s emotions and the value they can have in a relationship. Dr. Hughes also practices Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), which brings a thoughts-based dimension to conversations.

Dr. Hughes earned a Doctorate in Pastoral Counseling from Wesley Theological Seminary. He is passionate about affirming clients’ backgrounds, cultures, and identities, and providing nonjudgmental mental health services to all clients.
