Emily works with adults of all ages struggling with a myriad of concerns including anxiety, depression, relationship conflict, life transitions, identity exploration, family dynamics, LGBTQIA+ issues, and pregnancy and postpartum mental health. Emily’s approach prioritizes a balance of concrete interventions to address the immediate distress alongside thoughtful exploration of a client’s past, their current context, and the many layers of their identity in order to better understand what might be underlying a client’s current pain so we can get to the root of it to make for more lasting change. This task involves examining the intersection of love, work, social life, and larger sociopolitical systems with emotional struggle.
All successful therapy begins with a strong relationship. Therapy gets to be a space where that relationship is intentional, warm, and direct. Emily works to build a relationship that is deeply supportive and open and that also builds the conditions to give hard feedback and disrupt the status quo. Emily’s style is warm, intuitive, and individualized to who you are and what you need.
Emily has provided therapy in a group practice setting working with individuals of all ages. She has provided short-term, client-centered therapy to undergraduate students at Barnard College’s counseling center, where she also provided substance-use counseling, education, and outreach using a harm-reduction approach. In addition, she has worked with children living in temporary housing in a school setting, providing both individual and group therapy, combining play therapy, art making, storytelling, and other therapeutic methods that continue to inform her creative practice of therapy with all ages today.
Emily is currently offering virtual sessions as well as in-person sessions in Brooklyn, NY.
