Professional statement

Heather Schwalen is a licensed professional counselor serving clients in Georgia and Texas. She works with individual adults across the life-span providing convenient online therapy via video and phone sessions.

Heather helps clients work through difficult thoughts, feelings, and life circumstances in order to support them in making decisions in which they feel confident to navigate their life with meaning and purpose. She seeks to do this through an approach to counseling that is rooted in the concept of attachment and connecting in relationships as well as identifying a client's strengths in order to pin-point solutions to problems. Heather believes in equipping her clients for the changes they wish to make and as such will often recommend resources in the form of handouts or books in conjunction with the counseling sessions.

Heather has worked with clients from a variety of backgrounds and cultures having spent several years living cross-culturally outside of the United States. She also has experience working with at-risk-youth and their families within the Juvenile Justice system as well as couples counseling. She is a Christian and can provide faith-based counseling on request.

Message to clients

Dear counseling seeker,

Navigating life can be challenging, perhaps even daunting at times. I've worked in the counseling field since 2009 when I returned to Cambodia for the second time to work with Khmer nationals and expatriates. My faith, coupled with several difficult life experiences, has led me to help others become resilient and find a sense of purpose through life's difficulties.

I understand that I am just one person walking therapeutically alongside clients to assist them on their journey.

Feel free to send me a message if you would like to schedule a free 15-minute consultation to see if telehealth counseling and my approach would be a good fit for you.

I hope you find the support that you need at this time whether it is working with me or another counselor.

Kind regards,

Heather
