Professional statement

Dr. Ivey Burton is a Psychologist located in Los Angeles, CA with over 30 years of experience in the mental health field. Dr. Burton specializes in working with those who are significantly impacted by depression, anxiety, trauma and emotional regulation difficulties. She has worked with a broad range of problems including mood and anxiety disorders, eating disorders, trauma, aging-related issues, and relationship conflicts. Sometimes, these mental health challenges begin because of a traumatic experience or harmful patterns throughout a client’s life. Dr. Burton offers clients the tools they need to overcome these challenges and feel present and grounded in their everyday lives.

Dr. Burton’s main approach to therapy is rooted in mindfulness practice. She encourages clients to engage in mindfulness exercises like deep breathing, meditation, mindfulness movement, and more. The goal is to shift attention inwards to become more attuned to thoughts, feelings, and physical sensations. She will work with you to enhance your self awareness and your ability to live in the present moment. Dr. Burton works with clients within the Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) frameworks. Clients clarify their values and work on aligning their lives with these values, both through big and small actions, including changes in thought patterns. Dr. Burton provides a comfortable space where clients feel comfortable being vulnerable as they process their thoughts and feelings.

Dr. Burton earned a PhD in Psychology from the California School of Professional Psychology. She brings warmth and compassion to each client relationship and enjoys seeing clients discover new things about themselves and align their lives more closely to the type of life they want.
