As a creative arts therapist, Jen is both a mental health professional and an artist. This background allows her to help clients work through problems and uncomfortable feelings creatively, such as through art making (drawing, painting, sculpture, collage) and use of metaphor. This approach can open new doors to self-awareness and coping.
Jen’s clients often come in curious about their feelings, behaviors, and patterns and seeking to feel more at peace with themselves. Jen supports her clients in cultivating self-understanding, identifying and separating from internalized judgments, and building self-acceptance. Being a human is hard, and Jen strives to offer a space where people can be their authentic selves and receive and internalize unconditional positive regard.
Jen believes that everything we do and feel makes sense if we can understand what is happening in the context of the past and the present. She takes a client-centered and psychodynamic approach to follow the client's lead, treat the client as the expert of their life, and explore versus pathologize clients' emotional and behavioral landscapes. Her clinical experience ranges from intensive family-based in-home services, to adult inpatient psychiatry, to school-based work (pre-school through college), and community outpatient clinic work. Jen founded her own private practice about 5 years ago and works mainly with adults.
Currently, Jen has availability for new in-person clients at her office in Port Jefferson (weekdays) and office in Smithtown (Saturdays). In an effort to offer more spaces for connection, creativity, and safety, Jen will be facilitating new in-person arts-based process groups at her Port Jefferson office as well.
