Professional statement

Jon Peters is a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker serving individuals and couples in Indiana, Rhode Island, and Washington State through the modalities of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Dialectical-Behavioral Therapy, and Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy. His client-centered approach helps clients craft personal paths to creative solutions to challenges and to develop resilience to be newly empowered to cope and thrive.

Jon guides clients to identify tools to address life’s challenges and to learn practical and effective personal wellness strategies that promote psychological fitness. His many years of practice with diverse clients has helped him develop a therapy practice that serves each client in their unique situation and with their individual needs.

Jon’s guiding principles are foundation, fitness, and feasibility. That is, he guides clients in a holistic exploration of how to create the conditions for resilience while teaching the techniques that improve psychological fitness to be able to positively cope rather than be stuck in reactivity. And he delivers suggested personal practices that fit into clients’ busy and complicated lifestyles.

Throughout his career, Jon has specialized in working with all forms of anxiety. Many of his clients have enjoyed a significant reduction in anxiety from the beginning of therapy. He teaches practices that provide permanent improvements even to those who have been coping with debilitating anxiety for years. As a clinician in Critical and Palliative Care settings for many years, Jon is skilled in working with issues of chronic illness and pain, end of life issues, and caregiver stress. Jon also worked with thousands of divorcing parents in the roles of therapist, coach, and mediator and is uniquely skilled to help separating parents cope with their separation and help their children cope and thrive.

Jon delivers services remotely via telehealth video sessions only.

Message to clients

You are likely coming to therapy seeking transformation. We can work together to clarify what you want to change and how you can take steps to reach your goals. I take a practical approach which means offering feasible strategies that address your unique needs. I'll help you define your process and goals so it can be clear to both of us that you are making progress. Of course, this clarity emerges through empathetic support. Perhaps in this moment, the most important thing is for you to have someone respectfully bear witness to your suffering. That is an okay place to start.

While we will seek your personal transformation with what you choose to bring to therapy, I predict that you will enjoy the common outcomes of therapy transformation: feeling more grounded and centered, being less anxious, having more joy, and enjoying improved connections with others.

Let's work together as a collaborative team so you can thrive!

Feel free to message me to set up a brief phone call to see if we're a good fit.
