Professional statement

Katy Perkins is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker located in Fayetteville, NC. She is passionate about helping people who know that something isn’t working for them in their lives but they aren’t sure exactly what, and they seek therapy as a way to improve their well-being and find a greater sense of self. Many of Katy’s clients have painful memories from traumatic or distressing experiences, and they resort to perfectionism, depression, or anxiety as a way to cope. Sometimes, they might also resort to toxic relationships that further the harm on their self-identity and self-worth. Katy welcomes people of all cultural backgrounds and identities into her practice, as she strives to create an inclusive and affirming environment for personal growth.

Katy’s style as a therapist is nonjudgmental and empathetic. She practices a therapy approach called Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy, which helps clients move past the physical and emotional reactions that occur due to past traumas. She also supports gentle self-exploration of the client’s background, including their upbringing and their core beliefs about themselves and the way that the world works. She often encourages clients to engage in self-acceptance work, finding empowerment from who they are and the ways that they live their lives.

Katy earned a Master’s degree in Social Work from the University of Texas at Arlington. Committed to social justice, Katy helps clients understand how societal stigma influences views of the self and how it can be damaging to a person’s well-being. By understanding that stigma, clients can then focus on reducing its power over them and instead begin living authentically and without judgment.
