Professional statement

Kayla Robbins is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. She completed her Masters degree in Clinical Psychology at Antioch University Los Angeles and has trained in community mental health, elementary school, high school, and private practice settings in both California and New York. Kayla is particularly passionate about working with women in their twenties and thirties, the LGTBQIA community, couples, and those healing from trauma.

Kayla’s holistic approach is tailored to each client and is informed by Narrative, Relational Gestalt, Somatic and Internal Family Systems theories. She is also trained as a yoga teacher and is passionate about exploring the mind/body/spirit connection in her work.

Kayla holds deep and unconditional compassion for each of her clients, along with an unwavering sense of the boundless possibilities that are available to each of us. She seeks to help clients access their strengths and approaches challenges creatively and collaboratively. Her style is warm, empathetic, and affirming. She sees therapy as a true partnership and is honored to support and empower clients throughout the process. Kayla is currently taking on new clients in-person at her lovely office in Pasadena.

Message to clients

I believe that we are constantly in relationship- to ourselves and our bodies, to one another, to our many identities, to the contexts we exist within- and that issues arise as a result of these nuanced relationships, not because something within us is "broken" or "wrong.” Together we will get curious about, explore and renegotiate these relationships to help you live into your most authentic self.

The things that are with me in every single session are curiosity and compassion (and often humor). I ask a lot of questions and am definitely not the kind of therapist that will just sit there and nod. I love to explore big, abstract ideas, consider social context and how it informs individuals, use the past as a way to understand and foster more empathy for our present behaviors, approach problems creatively and relentlessly, tune into the wisdom of our bodies, and have fun (yes, therapy can even be fun! I promise!).

Therapy with me can help you to improve your relationships, process a loss or life transition, clarify your goals or purpose, manage a stressful job, explore your sexuality, tackle a phobia, unpack past challenges and traumas, improve a relational or emotional skill-set, benefit from a neutral observer who has no involvement in your life, develop healthier habits, or simply to understand yourself more deeply. And that list is by no means exhaustive!

I look forward to working with you to create a therapeutic space that helps you to expand and grow.
