Professional statement

Dr. Laura Wittcoff is a licensed clinical social worker (LICSW) with a doctorate in social work, practicing in Massachusetts although currently living in Los Angeles where she teaches at the University of Southern California. Dr. Wittcoff welcomes adults - individuals and couples who are seeking to better manage their current situations to create change in their lives. Her clients are often in emotional distress with symptoms of depression and anxiety where activities can be a struggle, where relationships no longer feel balanced, and where stress and self-criticism are impacting day-to-day interactions and their decision-making. Dr. Wittcoff forms a therapeutic partnership with her clients where they are the experts in their own lives and seek to explore ways to address issues that reduce symptoms and lead to new ways of engaging.

Therapy sessions with Dr. Wittcoff integrate both insight-oriented and cognitive-based approaches with evidence-based treatment modalities. She believes in nonjudgmentally guiding clients to explore the root causes of their symptoms, gaining new awareness into their behavioral patterns, so that they can orchestrate the changes they want to make. At the same time, she encourages practical strategies, with an emphasis on deep breathing and meditation practices, to help clients feel better as they are working toward the changes they want to make.

Having served as a consultant for organizations, both public and private, and having taught at several universities, Dr. Wittcoff is uniquely skilled in working where systems issues impact an individual's well-being and vice-versa. Understanding what one brings to and receives from a system is significant in guiding internal changes that positively impact the individual and the system. Dr. Wittcoff is certified in providing & interpreting the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator, Motivational Interviewing, & coaching.

Dr. Wittcoff is committed to diversity, being open, and inclusive, and maintaining a practice that reflects that.

Message to clients

I very much look forward to getting to know you, understanding you, and seeing you in ways that enable a partnership of support to develop that benefits you. I hope to provide you with a nonjudgmental, safe environment allowing you to work on whatever issues that are bogging you down and that are barriers to your being your best self. I am impressed that you are taking this step toward improving your well-being and I believe that things will get better when you have the space and tools to apply a new lens to your situation. Therapy is not an easy process, but it encourages reflection and active engagement that enable change to happen.

Please know that I am dedicated to this process and your well-being and believe you are truly the expert in your own life. I am the conduit to help you change what you want to change and in doing so, leave you with tools, ideas, and ways of engaging that allow you to gain confidence and become who you were always meant to be.

I know you are brave to take this step and I respect that and hold your confidence so that you can be free to bring all of you to each session we have and utilize the time we have together to explore and practice to bring into focus your best self.
