Professional statement

Michael Serpico is a licensed psychotherapist who has an extensive clinical background and finds deep fulfillment and passion in his work. He has worked in an array of clinical settings, ranging from in-patient psychiatric, substance abuse treatment, forensic settings, to community mental health centers. Furthermore, he has provided services to children, adolescents, teens, adults, and older adults. He currently sees patients through telehealth services and holds a license in mental health counseling in Florida. He received his graduate training at Barry University and Nova Southeastern University, with a focus on psychodynamic psychotherapy. Trauma, human sexuality, affective neuroscience, and evolutionary psychology are areas that interest him.

Michael is an interactive, relationally psychoanalytic oriented psychotherapist. His approach combines tenets of drive theory, ego psychology, object relations, and self-psychology to provide support and feedback to the people he works with in an effort to help them navigate personal life challenges. He integrates specific methodologies and techniques to offer a highly personalized and tailored approach to each person he works with. Compassion and empathic attunement are the building blocks for treatment with all his patients. He assists individuals to help them build on their strengths and achieve personal growth, as well as develop their healthiest sense of self. He strives for people to accept and better understand themselves and process their difficulties in a way that enables them to move forward, and not remain stuck in their lives. Furthermore, he hopes to unlock the power in everyone he works with and teach them ways to create lasting meaningful change.

Message to clients

I specialize in working with people who have had painful experiences from their past that continue to affect them today. I also help individuals who may not feel they need therapy, but have been prompted to do so. I believe in long-term therapy to create lasting meaningful change. I strive for people to accept and better understand themselves and process their difficulties in a way that enables them to move forward, and not remain stuck in their lives. Few therapists provide relationally psychoanalytic work, which I offer to young adults, parents, and families.
