Therapists In-Network with First Health in Rhode Island

First Health is a common health insurance in Rhode Island, and individuals who have First Health may wish to find therapists who are in-network with their health insurance.

When you see a therapist who is in-network with First Health, each session you’ll pay only a copay, which typically ranges from $0-$75/session. Depending on your plan, you may first need to pay the provider’s full session fee until you meet your annual deductible, which is the total amount of medical expenses required before your health insurance starts to cover costs. Some plans cover the cost of in-network therapy sessions before the deductible is met; to verify whether your specific plan covers therapy sessions and at what rate, visit the First Health website or call the number on the back of your insurance card and ask about your coverage for outpatient mental health.

The psychotherapy I practice is both insight-oriented and supportive. My training is psychodynamic and interpersonal.

I am passionately committed to a therapy which helps folks make sense of their thoughts, feelings, and behavior and of the thoughts, feelings, and behavior of others.

I see myself as curious, compassionate, and non-judgmental. Style-wise, I would say that I listen closely. I strive to ask questions respectfully. I take a fairly active role in encouraging clients to reflect on present day interpersonal interactions. I see the ability to understand oneself from the outside and others from the inside as central to the development of emotional intelligence and of constructive, intimate relationships.

No estoy en condiciones de hacer el trabajo completamente en español, pero me gustaría que supieran que tengo un enfoque abierto y un interés sincero en la gente bicultural.

I believe that therapy should create a safe and conducive environment for exploration and change, be affirming and empathic, facilitate learning and self-discovery, and provide feedback about unhealthy life patterns. My areas of expertise include: sports/athletic performance anxiety, recovery from athletic injury, general stress and anxiety management, life transitions, health and wellness. In addition to my clinical practice, I teach and perform research on stress, anxiety and health. I have published over 30 articles in the areas of high blood pressure, stress and women's health, and have given over 50 presentations about my research.

I am a triathlete and black belt in Tae Kwon Do, with an interest in Zen philosophy. I'm also a new student of electric guitar to challenge my brain in a different way. Thus, balance, mindfulness, and focus are important aspects of how I view mental health.

My background gives me a unique perspective of the mind-body connection. I can help you learn ways to: cope with athletic injury, improve resilience and athletic performance, lower your stress levels, feel less overwhelmed, make it through a difficult life transition, be healthy, and attain balance in your life.

The Adult Partial Hospital Program at Rhode Island Hospital provides intensive, short-term treatment designed for individuals with acute psychiatric concerns. After completing a day of treatment, individuals return home for the evening. This minimizes disruption to their daily routines, maintains uninterrupted support of family and friends, and facilitates learning by encouraging immediate practice of newly acquired skills.

We believe that patients should have ample opportunity to speak with a specialist; therefore, patients are seen for individual sessions every day. We offer telephone consultation and send a detailed report to primary care physicians and outpatient behavioral health providers to help them provide their patients with the most informed and complete care and facilitate the transition to outpatient care after leaving the program.

Please note the Program requires a referral from a provider, which may include an outpatient mental health professional, primary care provider, emergency room, or hospital. Download the referral form here. For questions, please call 401-444-2128.

Compassion, curiosity and humor are the best adjectives to describe my work. I have been a clinical social worker for nearly 30 years and believe more than ever in the power of the 'talking cure.' I provide a safe space for people to share their stories and bear witness to their pain and sorrow. Thru this process people learn to (re) create sustainable lives. I believe that recovery/positive change is always possible and strive to offer people hope thru our work together. While psychodynamically trained, I often use CBT techniques, self compassion and case management on a case by case basis.

As a therapist, I believe it is important to provide a welcoming and safe environment for my clients. For many clients, making the initial call to schedule an appointment may be very anxiety provoking and out of their comfort zone. I am dedicated to meeting the client where they are at, and giving them a place where they can feel comfortable to heal and grow.
I am also Spanish and Portuguese speaking, and am ethnically and culturally sensitive to the needs of clients.

The process of psychotherapy is nurtured in a safe, supportive atmosphere of trust, mutual respect and open communication where clients can talk freely about experiences, feelings, thoughts and concerns. Therapy provides all of us an opportunity to gain understanding about ourselves and our lives, and helps us manage it all with full awareness and greater strength. It works best when the therapist is competent and when there is a good connection between client and therapist.

It takes a lot of courage to reach out and try therapy, and I congratulate you for taking this important step. For whatever reason, if there has been a struggle or something that is holding you back, therapy can be a way to take care of yourself and to try different possibilities that might take you to the next step in life. My approach is playful, conversational, and strengths-based, and we'll work to identify your inherent ability to overcome that which is holding you back, while laughing along the way to ease the difficult conversations.

It takes a lot of courage to walk through the door. It says that something isn’t going well, and I really honor that in each person. As a solution-focused therapist, my goal is to help you discover a better sense of self. While we can't change difficult situations of the past, we can work together to better understand and resolve challenges in your life. By applying complementary therapy approaches and techniques, we can work together to achieve a sense of balanced resolution that is more fulfilling for you, and for others in your life.
