Professional statement

Dr. Jenkins is a full-time academic psychiatrist at McLean Hospital and faculty at Harvard Medical School who also has a small, solo private practice. Dr. Jenkins is skilled in the treatment of mood disorders, anxiety disorders, trauma-related disorders, and personality disorders. He completed his psychiatric residency at the Mass General Hospital and McLean Hospital Psychiatric Residency Program.

Dr. Jenkins greatly values transparency about the psychotherapeutic process. During his residency, Dr. Jenkins sought additional training in several evidence based therapies. This training included several years of weekly supervision groups, individual supervision with an expert clinician, and review of videotaped sessions. As a result of this intensive training, Dr. Jenkins is capable of not only psychiatric evaluation and management with medications, but can deliver adherent Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Mentalization Based Therapy. He also has significant experience in doing Psychodynamic Psychotherapy. Dr. Jenkins creates a unique, individualized treatment plan for each of his patients. Often this includes the combination of medications and psychotherapy, but in certain cases he can also do just medication management. Dr. Jenkins is an active therapist with a preference for change oriented work. He often uses behavioral interventions, especially earlier in the treatment so that symptom reduction can be achieved more rapidly. As treatment progresses, he often will shift the treatment plan to a more insight-oriented approach so that you can learn more about how your past affects current relational patterns.

Dr. Jenkins sees patient's in his office on the McLean campus. Because of the nature of his private practice, not all potential patients will be a good fit for his practice. Together with Dr. Jenkins you will decide whether or not it is a good match for treatment within the first 1-3 sessions.

Message to clients

I am delighted that you've taken an interest in having me as your provider! Every person that I work with is unique and interesting and I feel honored to be invited to be a part of your healing process. If we decide to work together, I really look forward to working together as a team to help you reach your goals. I have high hopes that together we can help you to get over the current roadblocks that are keeping you from being the best version of yourself. The work of therapy can be hard and at times unrelenting. My promise to you is to continue to gently push you towards your full potential, while meeting you where you are at. If we work together, be prepared to work hard!

I am also happy to see people just for medication management usually every 2-8 weeks depending on where you are at with symptoms. I try to be very judicious with the amount and doses of medications that I prescribe. Medication management might include tapering you off of any unnecessary or unhelpful medications that you've been stuck on for awhile.
