Professional statement

Aaron Shragge is a Licensed Creative Arts Therapist with an office in the Upper West Side of Manhattan specializing in anxiety, depression, trauma, relationships, mindfulness, and addiction. Drawing from personal experience as a performer, his practice integrates traditional talk therapy with creative expression. He is passionate about using creative art mediums to help clients naturally express themselves and release distressing emotions.

Aaron uses a unique combination of music and verbal psychotherapy to explore challenging emotions, promote personal growth, and help clients achieve their goals. For clients recovering from trauma, in particular, he especially enjoys using music therapy in a safe and supportive environment to facilitate healing even when words are difficult to find.

Aaron welcomes young adults, adults, and couples to his practice. Having had extensive experience working at an HIV clinic, he has a special interest in working with individuals navigating the emotional impact of addiction and mental illness. His office is located steps from the 72nd Street Broadway subway station, and he also offers online sessions.

Message to clients

Creative practices can often be a safer and more direct way of expressing, experiencing and understanding the most challenging emotions. I'm a creative arts therapist who has been working in clinical settings in the NYC area for over five years. I integrate my experience as a performer in Jazz, improvised and World music as well as my zen practice of over ten years into a unique and effective approach to therapy. Using both verbal psychotherapy and creative art mediums in a safe and supportive environment I work to guide the therapeutic process towards achieving a client's unique goals.

I specialize in working with clients whom depression, anxiety, addiction, relationship issues, trauma, loss and coping with medical illness such as HIV. I also specialize in providing therapeutic music lessons that can address performance anxiety and stress injuries. No previous musical experience required.
