Alexandra Simmons is a Clinical and Sport Psychologist in the Methow Valley. She provides individual therapy for teens and adults of all ages. Many of Dr. Simmons’s clients come in to address anxiety, low self-esteem, relationship issues. Dr. Simmons is particularly passionate about serving athletes and performers as well as college and graduate students. She also has advanced training in the area of Sport Psychology addressing performance specific concerns including performance anxiety, low confidence, and injury recovery.
Dr. Simmons is trained in Psychodynamic therapy, Humanistic therapy, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), in which she uses the therapeutic relationship to explore how patterns have developed and can be used to strengthen connection to self and others. In session, Dr. Simmons focuses on relaxation techniques and grounding tools to utilize during times of stress, thought mapping, and visualization. Her approach allows clients to feel supported, heard, and empowered, believing that doing so helps her clients feel ready and capable of making decisions more aligned with their values and their true nature.
Dr. Simmons's style is warm, engaging, non-judgmental. When clients first start therapy, she will work to establish a strong, trusting relationship and provide a comfortable environment where they feel safe and heard.
Dr. Simmons received her PsyD from John F. Kennedy University. At University of California, Davis, where she completed her post-doc residency, she gained extensive experience with clinical issues such as anxiety, depression, trauma, eating concerns, interpersonal issues, and identity and cultural concerns as well as supporting the student-athletes with performance anxiety, low confidence and motivation, working through impacts of injury, and transition in/out of sport. Outside of private practice, she enjoys getting out in the mountains, lakes and rivers of the Methow Valley. Dr. Simmons offers remote therapy sessions.
