Brian Penrod is a licensed psychotherapist in Los Angeles who works with young adults, adults, and couples. He enjoys helping with anxiety, perfectionism, procrastination, digital distractions, communication difficulties, feeling stuck, trauma, and habit change.
Brian uses an eclectic and holistic therapeutic approach that focuses on finding ways to live a meaningful life. Although the past is very important, Brian often encourages clients to talk more about the present and future, as this can be more empowering and motivating. His work is primarily informed by ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy), CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy), Gottman Method couples therapy, and ART (Accelerated Resolution Therapy). Brian has a strong background in a variety of mindfulness practices.
After finishing grad school, Brian worked in child protective services with abused and neglected children who also have significant medical needs. Next, he worked in a community mental health setting with children and families exposed to violence and other traumas. In addition to providing therapy, Brian specialized in assessing the mental health needs of children in foster care. Brian’s background in social work practice gives him an understanding of the systems that our society uses to distract, manipulate, and disempower us. Brian currently works in private practice.
Brian’s office is located on the border between Pasadena and Eagle Rock in the city of Los Angeles. Brian is able to provide photos and descriptions of the office and local neighborhood for anyone who has trouble visiting new locations. He is available for sessions by video and phone. Brian’s office is a welcoming place for people of all backgrounds and beliefs, including gay and lesbian clients.
