Caroline Furcolo is licensed in New York, Rhode Island, and Connecticut. She is a Certified EMDR therapist, & Certified Clinical Trauma Professional. Frequently Caroline’s clients come in when they are struggling with symptoms from PTSD, C-PTSD, or childhood trauma. This commonly takes form in porn addictions, relationship issues, or limiting beliefs (such as shame, guilt, or anxiety/depressive symptoms). Caroline is particularly passionate about working with complex cases including dissociation tendencies, as well as with individuals and couples who’s challenges are inhibiting their romantic relationships.
Caroline is highly trained in EMDR which uses bilateral stimulation, to help reprocess prior events, belief systems about one’s self or the world, and out dated body sensations/reactions. Her EMDR training emphasizes working with dissociation, dissociative tendencies, and significant internal defenses (protective parts). In sessions, Caroline focuses on what’s getting in the way of the client’s desired way of being. She encourages a holistic approach including breathwork, dream analysis, mind-body connection, and bringing light to the unconscious. These approaches support client’s to better understand themselves, and support themselves outside of therapy.
Caroline’s style is welcoming, and down to earth. When a client first comes in, she’ll get to know the client’s goals, history, and therapeutic preferences. Caroline is dedicated to providing a relationship that is safe, personal, and where client’s feel understood. Leaving sessions knowing themselves better, with better tools to help themselves and carrying less mental burdens.
Caroline received her masters degree from Northwestern University, focusing her studies on psychodynamic therapy, the gut-brain connection, and sex therapy. She also has a degree with specialties in neuroscience, and cognitive psychology from the University of Rhode Island. She has been focused in private practice for four years. Outside of therapy she’s with her horses, garden, or mountain bike.
