Professional statement

Cheryl Hughes is a clinical social worker, licensed to provide counseling and therapy services in the District of Columbia, Maryland and Virginia. Cheryl's clients are dealing with a significant life stressor: it could be a challenging medical condition, the recent the death of a friend or loved one, or the anxiety that comes with a major life transition, such as retirement or divorce.

Having worked in the world of cancer care and grief support for more than a decade, Cheryl provides a strong, supportive voice along with solid clinical judgment and skills. She uses cognitive behavioral therapy, values identification, and mindfulness practices to provide her clients with tools that will help them create the future they would like to see for themselves.

Working remotely or in person in her Dupont Circle office, Cheryl combines her clinical expertise and skills with a commitment to caring for the specific needs of each individual with whom she works. Every client presents with different goals and needs, and from her very first meeting, Cheryl works to tailor sessions to the specific goals of her clients. She recognizes that these needs may -- and likely will -- change over time, and provides flexible, supportive, ongoing care in service of her clients' well-being.
