Professional statement

Dr. Aboyoun's interest in human behavior started in early childhood when his parents read Aesop's fables as his bedtime ritual. His curiosity persisted and evolved over time, eventually resulting in his reading dated psychology textbooks from his high school library. He subsequently majored in psychology at the University of Scranton with the goal of becoming a psychologist. After he was graduated from the University in 1993, Dr. Aboyoun attended Georgia State University in Atlanta, GA. After a protracted period of time taking extra courses and practica, he finally earned his doctoral degree and master of arts in clinical psychology with a specialization in psychotherapy from Georgia State University in 2001. He is licensed in the New Jersey and Pennsylvania, currently practicing in Easton, PA. Dr. Aboyoun has a breadth of clinical training ranging from acceptance & commitment therapy to psychodynamic psychotherapy. Recently, he became a certified sex therapist (CST) through AASECT.

Message to clients

Therapy improves our lives. Decades of research support this claim...change happens. I recommend looking for a psychologist who is going to be a good "fit" for you. This is wise because our relationship sets the stage for therapy. Therapists vary; there are many ways to have a corrective experience in therapy. I can help you make an informed decision about me and my practice.

People are complicated and unique. While I am not completely attached to one model or method I try to adapt to a client’s personal style and preferences. I often try to use a relational approach that involves the immediate experience of our relationship as a way to deepen your understanding of yourself and your relational process. I am also practical in that I am also open to giving direct input if it is helpful. An important part of my practice involves asking for very specific feedback about the session as well as the quality of our relationship.
