Professional statement

Dr. David Shoup is a licensed Psychologist in Washington and California. Dr. Shoup clients often live a life that from the outside, looks happy and fulfilling. However, at times these individuals struggle to feel fulfilled in their lives and often experience anxiety, stress, or shame. They question whether they’re worth the love of their partners or family members, and write off their professional success as being lucky or others not really knowing what is happening. Often they enter therapy because they’re ready to change and want to enjoy life and their life's more.

Dr. Shoup’s goal in working with clients is to provide them with the skills they need to face their challenges and to find ways through their problems. He encourages clients to talk openly about what’s bothering them and what areas of their lives feel uncomfortable. He then works with clients to reflecting on their stories, and their life circumstances to better understand how they came to be in their current situation. He utilizes Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and other appropriate modalities to tailor sessions to individual needs. Clients may also find mindfulness practices to focus their attention on the present and let go of the past.

Dr. Shoup earned a Ph.D. in Psychology. He enjoys injecting humor into his conversations with clients and has a down-to-earth, easy-going style. He collaborates with his clients so together they can find effective strategies to make life more satisfying and comfortable.
