Professional statement

Emily Kitchen is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) utilizing virtual therapy in the state of Illinois and Indiana. She works with individuals and adults of all ages. Many of Emily’s clients come in to address anxiety, depression, maternal mental health and trauma. Emily specializes and is particularly passionate about serving those who are pregnant, new parents or transitioning to co-parenting. She has advanced training in the area of perinatal mental health (PMH-C).

Emily is trained in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), strengths based approach and mindfulness, in which she examines thoughts, triggers, beliefs, and behaviors to better understand what is or isn't working for you, and helps to shift them to healthier habits and routines. In session, Emily focuses on exploring strategies to help cope through difficult situations with grounding methods and mindfulness techniques. These approaches support clients to feel validated and heard as well as more present and relaxed in and outside of sessions.

Emily's style is compassionate, non-judgmental, and patient. When clients first start therapy, she will work to understand where you are at currently within your support system, your coping mechanisms, and your goals in therapy in a pace that you are comfortable with.

Emily received their MSW from University of Illinois at Chicago. She received her certificate from Postpartum Support International (PSI). She is a PSI coordinator in Indiana to help women/men find resources and support. She is a survivor of perinatal mood and anxiety disorder and wants to help other parents with getting the support they need. Outside of private practice, she enjoys spending time with her family including her young daughter, playing with her dog, and being outdoors. Emily offers remote therapy sessions only at this time due to the pandemic however has offered walking therapy as an option for clients.

Message to clients

We have been through a collective trauma the last couple of years with the pandemic, so if you've been considering therapy for awhile now is the time to give yourself that one hour a week for yourself to talk to someone about any difficulties you've been struggling with, the important things in your life and things you'd like to improve on. I believe everyone would benefit to having therapy at some point in their life. I am here as a guide to help you through the big feelings you may be having and to let you know that you're not alone. I am not ashamed to say that I have been through postpartum anxiety and depression and I want to let others know that there is support out there and you don't have to figure it out on your own. I hope I can be a good fit for you as a therapist and if not, I hope you will find someone that you can feel comfortable with and connect with to better yourself.
