Professional statement

Jonah Mishaan is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor in Brooklyn, NY who welcomes a wide range of clients across the lifespan. He specializes in helping students and young professionals navigate the complexities of anxiety, depression, relationships, substance abuse, and stress during emerging adulthood. Jonah takes the time to get to know each individual and define their treatment goals together, supporting clients as they make plans for the future and find their place in a changing world.

Jonah’s treatment approach is integrative, flexibly drawing from both insight-oriented and skill based techniques. He aims to equip clients with the concrete coping skills to manage overwhelming thoughts and emotions, while also exploring the deeper underlying issues and root causes.

Jonah has deep expertise in supporting clients in addiction recovery, and working with those who wish to explore their relationship to substances or who have a loved one struggling with addiction. He works at a gentle pace, helping clients to replace the role of the substance with healthier, more sustainable coping strategies.

In addition to his offices in East Flatbush and Midwood, Jonah offers the convenience of remote video sessions. For busy professionals, he has appointments available outside of traditional business hours. He looks forward to meeting new clients where they are at, and crafting a new plan for the future together. Jonah works with individuals who need help dealing with a particular problem as well as those dealing with more profound and deeper issues.

Message to clients

We each have the capacity to heal and grow to our fullest potential. With the right therapist, psychotherapy can be a truly transformative experience. I work with adults, families, and children, providing a safe, non-judgmental space where clients can truly be heard. I believe that by gaining insight into our experiences we are able to break negative and self-defeating patterns and find new opportunities for living.
I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and have a Masters degree in Psychology. I am also a Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor (CASAC). I have experience working with individuals struggling with addiction, as well as their loved ones and family members. I work with children and adolescents and offer play therapy materials at my office.
I believe in meeting clients where they are at, whether that is addressing a very particular problem or dealing with more profound and deeper issues. Psychotherapy should be a process of self-discovery and I feel honored to be able to facilitate that process with my clients.
