Professional statement

Katheryn Barton is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in St. Louis, MO. She meets with couples and individuals as they work through communication and relationship struggles. Many of her clients have stated how after working with her they are better able to navigate conflict and tough conversations. Katheryn is focused on helping her clients improve their relationships for a more meaningful connection.

Katheryn’s approach is rooted in Emotion Focused Therapy and some Gottman related themes and practices. Both proven to have great success when working with couples and are evidence-based approaches along with proof from interactional studies. She helps client’s notice their own physical and emotional reactions to one another and how that adds to a cycle that regularly plays out in their relationship. She introduces ways to take this new knowledge and apply it to make change.

Katheryn’s style is accepting, validating, non-judgmental and interactive. The clients are the experts of their reality and their perspectives, and she works with them to explore new perspectives as they move toward a deeper understanding of one another and thus, communication.

It’s very important for Katheryn to ensure the safety of her clients to share in session and to stay as neutral as possible. As a seasoned provider she provides in-person and online sessions to meet the needs and preferences of her clients. She is available at a variety of times throughout the week including some evenings. Her office is centrally located in Kirkwood.

Message to clients

If you are feeling like you and your partner have entered the "roommate realm" and no longer have that passion and connection, you once did. Or if you feel like you often argue over the same things again and again or over stupid things that don't really matter. I can help. I love my work with couples as they are wanting to reconnect and have tough conversations without it ending in a blow-up fight or yelling match.

Together we will focus on looking inward and how our actions impact the relationship. We will work to change destructive patterns, set effective boundaries and understand each other's perspective. Let's work together to gain back that intimacy and love and to move forward with an even stronger bond.
