Kristin Miscall is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the Flatiron neighborhood of Manhattan. Her specialties include trauma, eating disorders and body image challenges, addictions and substance misuse. She has extensive training in Psychodynamic therapy, through which she works with clients to better understand underlying problems that arise from childhood experiences. She also utilizes Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR), which aids clients in unblocking and releasing painful memories, leading to more rapid trauma recovery. Additionally, she draws from the ground-breaking trauma treatment pioneered by Pia Mellody called Post-Induction Therapy (PIT) which treats relational difficulties in adulthood that are rooted in childhood pain and trauma.
In her work with clients who struggle with eating and body image problems, Kristin draws from a variety of treatment and healing modalities including feminist psychodynamic model, mindfulness practices, and inner child work. She aims to support her clients’ understanding of both their eating disorder symptoms and the environmental and social factors that may have contributed to their development. In working toward healing these symptoms, she collaborates with her clients to explore the other issues that they cope with through eating, and how their relationship with food is connected to the ways our culture views and treats bodies, especially the female-identified body.
In addition to being anti-diet, Kristin uses a Health at Every Size model to promote a body positive approach to health and wellness. Her style is warm, honest, and grounded in unconditional positive regard. Kristin also believes in utilizing a team approach when it is essential for client safety and is comfortable working alongside nutritionists and medical doctors when indicated. She looks forward to meeting you at her office conveniently located near the 23rd Street subway station.
